Print24 Hour Rule

24-Hour Rule Policy

At the Strathroy Minor Lacrosse Association (SMLA), we aim to foster a respectful, constructive, and positive environment for players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. To ensure that issues are addressed calmly and thoughtfully, we ask that all individuals involved with SMLA, including bench staff, parents, guardians, and relatives of players, adhere to our 24-Hour Rule.

Policy Overview

  • Wait 24 Hours: If you have a lacrosse-related concern or issue, please wait 24 hours after the incident or situation before addressing coaches, managers, team staff, SMLA representatives, or referees. This waiting period allows emotions to settle and provides all parties the opportunity to reflect and approach the issue in a more objective manner.
  • Why 24 Hours?: The goal of the 24-hour waiting period is to minimize tension, reduce the risk of emotional or heated exchanges, and ensure that any concerns are raised in a calm and respectful manner. This practice encourages more effective communication and better conflict resolution.
  • Who It Applies To: This rule applies to all members of the SMLA community, including players, parents, guardians, relatives, bench staff, and volunteers.

How to Address Concerns

  • Coaches and Team Staff: If the concern involves a coach, manager, or team staff member, please wait 24 hours before reaching out. Coaches and team staff will be open to discussing matters in a calm and professional manner.
  • Referees: Referees are integral to the game and must be treated with respect. Any concerns regarding refereeing decisions should be addressed through the proper channels and after the 24-hour period.
  • SMLA Representatives: If the concern involves an SMLA representative or higher authority within the organization, the same 24-hour waiting period applies. Please direct your concerns to the appropriate person or committee member after the waiting period.

Zero Tolerance for Violations

  • Respect for the Rule: There will be zero tolerance for individuals who fail to adhere to the 24-Hour Rule. Any immediate confrontations or attempts to address concerns before the 24-hour period will be considered a violation of this policy.
  • Consequences: Violations of this rule may result in disciplinary actions, which may include warnings, suspension of privileges, or further review by the SMLA Board, depending on the severity of the violation.

Exceptions

  • In cases of emergency or urgent safety concerns, the 24-hour rule may not apply, and immediate action may be necessary. Please contact the appropriate SMLA representative as soon as possible if there are concerns regarding player safety or other urgent matters.

By observing this policy, we aim to create a culture of respect, collaboration, and understanding that benefits all involved in the SMLA community. Thank you for your cooperation!
