SMLA Release Policy
At Strathroy Minor Lacrosse Association (SMLA), our boundaries are defined by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA), much like minor hockey associations. Players residing within these boundaries are expected to register and play with SMLA. While players can request a release to join another association, SMLA operates as a non-release center, meaning releases are generally not granted except in extraordinary and urgent circumstances.
Important Notes on Release Requests:
- Releases will not be granted for reasons such as quality of play, coaching preferences, or similar concerns.
- Only extraordinary circumstances will be considered for release requests.
Release Hearing Process:
-
Request Submission:
- If a formal release request is received, SMLA will review it based on the number of requests and player registrations for the affected team.
-
Scheduling a Hearing:
- An in-person Release Hearing will be scheduled if SMLA decides to proceed with the request. There is a non-refundable $50 fee payable to SMLA at the time of the hearing.
-
Hearing Outcome:
- After the hearing, a written decision will be provided by the SMLA Hearing Board.
-
Appeals Process:
- If the applicant is not satisfied with the decision, they have the right to appeal within 5 days to the Zone Director or League Commissioner.
- All appeals must comply with the OLA’s Appeal Process (as per OLA Operating Regulation 11.3(d)) and include a non-refundable fee designated by the Zone and/or OLA.
