Why We Require Vulnerable Sector Background Checks
The Strathroy Minor Lacrosse Association (SMLA) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all players, families, and volunteers. As part of this commitment, we require vulnerable sector background checks for all individuals working directly with our athletes, including coaches, trainers, and managers.
Our Purpose:
-
Protecting Players: Background checks help ensure the safety and well-being of our participants by identifying individuals who may pose a risk to vulnerable individuals, including children and youth.
-
Fostering Trust: Requiring background checks demonstrates our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety and accountability, reinforcing trust between SMLA and our community.
-
Aligning with Best Practices: Conducting vulnerable sector checks aligns with provincial and national policies for youth sports organizations, helping us meet the expectations of governing bodies and insurance requirements.
We appreciate the cooperation of all volunteers in completing this important step and thank you for contributing to a safe and enjoyable lacrosse experience for everyone involved.
If you are a returning coach from 2024 and your previously submitted vulnerable sector screen is 2 years old or less, you may submit the OLA Offense Declaration form. That form can be found HERE.
If Strathroy-Caradoc is your local Police authority you can find the Criminal Record Check website HERE. Should you require a letter from the organization for your vulnerable sector screen, please email the President of SMLA.
